The Balance Project was a group project, where I collaborated with 3 designers; Louise Egholt, Caterina Sinisi and Andrei Singco. The project was a 2023 D&AD New Blood entry, representing Ravensbourne University.
Our project was created and designed to encourage young designers and freelancers to take regular breaks to prevent burning out, boost productivity and improve mental health. The Balance Project is a community based platform providing peer support, work-life balance tips, and advice on workers’ rights. The platform offers a downloadable extension, the Balance Buddy, that encourages users to take regular breaks.
The campaign utilises glyphs from the Google Fonts typeface Noto Sans & Noto Sans Emoji to maintain a typographic focus whilst emphasising a lighthearted approach. Having a playful tone of voice helps to break the ice on the serious issue of overworking and hustle culture.
We worked extremely well as a group and delegated tasks to eachother to go away and work on and then come back to share and give feedback. I was mostly in charge of animation and motion but also made some important design decisions in other aspects of the project. Throughout the project I used Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, XD and Photoshop and received and 1st grade.
